What to wear for your photography session...
Every photographer has their own suggestions for what to wear for your session. I find one of the main goals is color - coordination with the surroundings we will be photographing in along with what looks good on you!
TO DO'S:
I always strive to take photos that will be timeless and not so trendy. I want you to be able to hang these photos forever and to look at them in 20 years and still love them. That being said, really trendy clothes will date your photos. Basics are preferrable, blacks, whites, muted tones without patterns or bold accessorries. Bold patterns tend to compete with the actual focus of the image - which should be you! Textures are always wonderful for photographs!
The clothes should definitely be a representation of who you are. Casual or dressy, don't buy something for the session that you wouldn't normally wear. Long sleeves and long pants are always preferable as the more skin you show the more distracting it is from your face. Do accessorize but keep in mind your accessories should compliment you and not overpower you.
Color is your friend! Darker colors are usually more slimming but colors should be flattering to you so wear your usual color palette. I have color harmony suggestions to help you as well and will discuss locations with you prior to your session to help with these color choices.
If we are doing a maternity session, please remember to not wear any tight clothing around your belly for at least 2 hours prior to the shoot as fabric marks on the skin are very noticable in images.
If we are shooting a baby session and you want your baby bare, please do not put anything with elastic on the baby's skin as it will leave marks that will not fade for a few hours.
For engagement sessions, try not to be too matchy but do try to color coordinate.
And finally, comfort, relaxation, warmth or coolness are all very important depending on the location we will shoot at. Please take into consideration what you will need based on the time of the year and location of your shoot so that you will be comfortable and we will not be rushed.
WHAT NOT TO DO:
Sleeveless, shorts, large accessories, and heavy make-up should be avoided. New unusual haircuts, really large hats or bows, large earrings, bright colored scarves, dark tanning, etc... are all distractions that can ruin images.
Avoid getting a new hair cut or color immediately prior to your session. Try to avoid wearing outfits that show your tan lines or underclothing. Avoid using something on your skin that you have never used before to avoid break outs.
Avoid shirts with lettering or characters of any kind along with logos. No neon colors.
And please do not wear something that required adjusting during the shoot (bra straps falling, shirt rising, etc..) or anything that makes you self-conscious.
If we will be shooting around water please be aware of the correct clothes and shoes to wear/bring.
MOST IMPORTANT:
Having fun and being relaxed!
If you are stressed it will show in your images. If your baby is stressed, you will not have a good session experience. I love sessions where we are not rushed but are relaxed, having fun and getting the best possible images for you! |
